As a large BMW dealership in California—selling an estimated 400 cars monthly—the organization chose to work with GE to make sure each car was shown in its best light.
“The organization has been selectively upgrading its dealerships,” said GE’s Tim McMahon. “In facilities where it's performing renovations, new builds and more—wherever it's doing those sorts of projects—it is using LED.”
A key company decision maker saw the possibilities offered by GE's LED lighting solutions while touring the manufacturer's East Cleveland, Ohio, headquarters. The Lumination™ BL Series LED Luminaires—recessed linear troffers that offer near-limitless
design potential—sparked the imagination.
“The company's top-level management is intimately involved in these sorts of decisions,” McMahon continued. “After walking the site and evaluating the value that GE Lighting had brought to the dealership through a test installation, it pulled the trigger.”
The new lighting coincided with a complete renovation of the dealership's interior. GE's Albeo LED high bay lighting fixtures
replaced 4-foot linear fluorescent lamps and linear troffers in the service bays. The dealership's customer welcome area was renovated to include a Starbucks and a gift shop, each lit with Lumination™ BR Series LED Luminaires.
Additionally, this dealership was one of the first to use the USG Logix™ integrated ceiling system with GE Lumination BL Series lighting fixtures, breaking new ground for the possibilities of LED in such facilities. The Lumination BL Series, a result of a collaborative effort between GE Lighting and USG Corporation, brings designers and architects new possibilities for aesthetically pleasing lighting. Offering a range of sizes, color temperature and lumen output, the Lumination BL Series can be leveraged for
maximum impact and effective lighting design.
In addition to the interior service area lighting, GE replaced the dealership's outdoor area lighting with GE's Evolve™ LED fixtures.
Results & Benefits
Management has praised the overall aesthetics, the improved look of the vehicles, and the enhanced visibility realized throughout service bays within the facility. The dealership features several GE LED lighting technologies, from high bay solutions to linear recessed troffers, providing a sleek, clean look and tens of thousands of dollars in energy savings. Plus it's now the precedent for all of the organization's dealerships across the United States.
So far, the dealership has been able to reduce its energy consumption by approximately 76 percent and will reap around $95,192 annually in cost savings.
