The updating project of Multiuse and Cruise terminals is an initiative of Ensenada International Terminal (EIT) and Ensenada Cruiseport Village (ECV), socially liable companies, subsidiaries of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), a conglomerate deemed as the main investor, developer and operator of port infrastructure worldwide. The HPH network operates in 52 ports globally, in 26 countries of Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe, America and Australasia.

The Solution

"The ecologically and energetically effective technology of GE will undoubtedly help us to be more effective in our operations and similarly is a further evidence of our commitment with the environment and life quality improvement in the communities where we operate", states C.P. Javier Rodríguez, General Manager of EIT and ECV.

The project comprised the installation of 135 lamps: 78 Evolve LED Area Light in the Cruise Terminal, with power up to 210 watts, and 57 LED Cobrahead in the Container Area, with capacity up to 258 watts; over 30% of such lamps were installed in areas which previously had not lighting.

"Since we carried out our first trials, we could corroborate favorable results related to lighting levels and better perception regarding safety", states Arturo Acosta, Manager of Sensa Ensenada Baja California, company responsible for the project management.

Behind the new port face, the Protection Officer of both Port Facilities (OPIP) and the security members have stated their project recognition as they reported a better performance of their responsibilities which engage the inspection and monitoring tasks of port operations. Additionally, local dwellers, officers and maintenance personnel have realized meaningful changes which were translated into a better artificial light quality.

"The choice by Ensenada International Terminal and Ensenada Cruiseport Village to apply our technology in one of the ports with bigger growth in Mexico has been an honor for us. Our responsibility for the implementation of more effective lighting technologies has taken us to improve our presence in strategic points commercially and industrially, contributing for the country's economic development", commented David Cazares, Sales Manager of GE professional sector.
